Girl hospitalized after being struck by impaired driver in Bayport

A girl is recovering after police say she was struck by an impaired driver while riding her bicycle in Bayport on Monday evening.
According to authorities, the crash happened around 6 p.m. at the intersection of Montauk Highway and First Avenue. Police say the girl was riding her bike when she was hit by a vehicle.
Witnesses described a large emergency response at the scene.
"I heard a loud bang, 10 cop cars pulled up, and I saw the girl on the ground," said Bayport resident Brady Kavanagh. "She looked to be sitting up. She was sitting in the intersection over there."
The girl was taken to a nearby hospital with what police described as minor injuries.
Investigators say the driver involved was arrested on charges related to impaired driving. Officials have not yet released the driver's identity.
