Drivers who double-park, block bus stops, or illegally use bus lanes may soon face more tickets as the MTA expands its automated camera enforcement program to four additional bus routes across New York City.

The latest expansion adds enforcement cameras to the BX21 in the Bronx, the B8 and B9 in Brooklyn, and the Q101 in Queens.

The cameras are mounted on buses and are designed to capture vehicles that interfere with bus operations and passenger access. According to the MTA, violations can be issued to drivers caught driving in designated bus lanes, double-parking along bus routes, or blocking bus stops.

The Automated Camera Enforcement (ACE) program launched in June 2024 and has continued to grow citywide. The MTA says the program now covers 76 bus routes and includes more than 2,000 buses equipped with enforcement cameras. Transit officials say the cameras have helped improve bus speeds, reduce traffic crashes, and keep bus stops clear for riders.

The rollout is part of the MTA’s larger plan to add automated enforcement cameras to 26 additional bus routes this year.

Drivers caught by the cameras could face escalating penalties if violations are approved by the Department of Transportation. Fines begin at $50 and can increase to as much as $250 for repeat offenders.
