Drivers are facing major delays on the George Washington Bridge Friday morning as the morning commute remains backed up into the Bronx.

Crossing times reached as much as 90 minutes earlier this morning when three lanes were closed for construction. Those construction closures have now cleared, and traffic conditions are beginning to improve.

The backups follow two fatal incidents earlier in the week. A deadly road-rage shooting and a fatal motorcycle crash involving a tractor-trailer both forced lane closures while investigators worked at the scenes.

Ongoing construction aimed at improving the bridge adds to the congestion, leaving drivers traveling between New Jersey and New York City facing one disruption after another.
