In a world that often moves at a fast pace, Studio Andreas in Stamford is inviting people to slow down and create with their hands.
The studio offers instruction and workspaces for a variety of traditional crafts, including woodworking, ceramics, weaving and drawing.
Founder Mark Andreas says the skills taught there are rooted in practices humans have used for thousands of years. Woodworking was the studio's starting point, and instructors say working with wood teaches patience and focus.
Students in the ceramics studio learn the traditional art of pottery, while the textile studio introduces beginners and experienced makers alike to weaving and basketry.
"In every part of the world, people create fabric," Andreas says, noting that weaving is a craft that connects communities across cultures.
Studio Andreas offers workshops, weekly classes, semester-long courses and special events.
Instructors say students are drawn to the hands-on, meditative nature of the work, while also enjoying the problem-solving and engineering aspects of creating something from scratch.
Beyond learning a craft, the studio has become a place where people build connections, fostering a welcoming community centered on creativity and making.
Studio Andreas is located at 652 Glenbrook Road, Studio 5-201, inside the Glenbrook Industrial Park.
