Polling places across Fairfield County saw a steady stream of voters. West Rocks Middle School in Norwalk even ran out of voting stickers in the afternoon.
For some people, heading to the polls is a regular ritual.
Others used it as a learning opportunity for the next generation.
The issues that brought people out differed depending on who you asked, but there was a common belief among everyone that voting is a responsibility.

Gov. Ned Lamont and his Republican challenger, Ryan Fazio, spent Election Day crisscrossing the state in one final attempt to sway voters.
Connecticut hasn't elected a Republican in 20 years, since Gov. Jodi Rell in 2006 – and if the polling is accurate, Democrats will continue their winning streak tonight, sending Lamont back to the governor's office for a rare third term.
"I'm feeling good," Lamont told reporters after casting his vote at Greenwich High School. "The campaign is done. No more TV ads, no more rallies. I'm just really happy to see everybody voting. Your vote makes a difference."
Lamont then visited nine polling places before his watch party tonight at Dunkin' Park in Hartford.
His closing message?
"I think people like we've made real progress in this state over the last eight years, but they know we have work to do, especially when it comes to bringing down the high cost of health care," Lamont said.
Meantime, Fazio reminded voters that taxes and electric bills are still high.
"Gov. Lamont had eight years to do it," Fazio said outside a precinct in Fairfield. "It hasn't gotten done, so our campaign is offering a vision for a more affordable future with more opportunity in the state."
Despite the public polls, Fazio believes it's a single-digit race that will hinge on Election Day turnout. More than 513,000 Connecticut residents voted early.
"We feel momentum in the closing days of the campaign," Fazio said. "People want a more affordable state. They want economic growth and opportunity in our state, and our campaign is delivering that exact message."
