Libraries across the NYC could see an expansion of hours as part of a proposed budget announced by NYC Council Speaker Adrienne Adam's budget during her State of the State address.
The $2 million expansion would expand hours at 10 locations to seven day a week service.
Only eight of Brooklyn's 62 branches are currently open on Sundays.
Brooklyn residents at the Brooklyn Central Library at Grand Army Plaza, one of the few locations that does have seven-day service, say neighborhoods, like East New York, Bed-Stuy and Ditmas Park, are not so lucky.
They hope that some of those 10 additional library hours will come to Brooklyn locations.
"This is a big distance; we could really need those locations" said Lenora Knights, of Ditmas Park.
"It's so devastating to need to use the library only to find out it is closed, I work freelance many people work on projects and the weekend is the only time they have, without those hours they have no access at all," said Shannon Lyons, of Bed-Stuy.
News 12 reached out to the speaker's office to ask about the timing of the announcement and what changed to allow the expansion after previous cuts to library service, but did not receive a response.
However, residents say that the expansion should have happened sooner.
"She probably could have pushed earlier, because with weekend service people can have it fit their schedule, fit their life," said East Flatbush resident Kayla Valentine.
