The Bedford Stuyvesant Volunteer Ambulance Corps hosted its annual block party Saturday.

Department officials joined New York City Mayor Eric Adams to rename the intersection of Greene Street and Marcus Garvey Avenue where the party was held in honor of the department's founding leader, James "Rocky" Robinson.

In a speech honoring Robinson, who founded the BSVAC in 1988, Adams called him an example of public service and helping the community.

"Starting the Bed-Stuy Ambulance Corps was something that he was proud of, training countless numbers of people in CPR and how to respond. Folks were not taking care of Black folks in this community when it came down to responding to those emergencies and he stated he was going to do it his way," Adams said.

The event also featured a community health fair, CPR demonstrations and more to highlight that care for the public that the BSVAC has in large part that Robinson started.

BSVAC also announced it is expanding its coverage area to Crown Heights, Brownsville, and East New York.
