A Bronx man was found dead after he was shot in the head late Sunday night in a stairwell at the Sotomayor Houses.
Police say the man who was shot and killed is 38-year-old Gregory Stewart of The Bronx. He was found in one of the stairwells at 1744 Watson Ave. According to police, they have someone in custody in connection to the shooting with charges pending.
News 12 has been told shots rang out minutes after 9 p.m. When cops arrived on scene, that's when they found Stewart shot in the head inside of a stairwell. He was rushed to the hospital where he died.
According to NYPD, data shootings in the area of the 43rd precinct are up right now with at least 31 happening for the year. This time last year there were 23 shootings.
Police say Stewart did not live at the Sotomayor Houses but lived 10 minutes away. It is unclear what he was doing there.
