4 districts pass school budgets, but East Ramapo rejects spending plan

Voters in several Hudson Valley communities passed school budgets on Tuesday, but East Ramapo isn't one of them.
Mount Vernon, Hastings, Garrison and Mahopac originally rejected school spending plans last month but eventually gave the go-ahead.
East Ramapo is the only area district to not pass its budget on the second shot. Voters rejected East Ramapo's budget by a vote of 2,012-1,097.
There cannot be another vote. The district has to adopt a 0% tax hike budget that will likely result in cuts. In a statement, Superintendent of East Ramapo School District Dr. Clarence Ellis said, "By operation of law, the East Ramapo Central School District Board of Education will move to adopt its 2022-23 contingency budget. Our administration has worked thoughtfully to craft a contingency spending plan that preserves as many core academic programs and supports as possible."
