Police released images of two of the four men they say are responsible for the shooting that wounded a 12-year-old girl in the Westchester Square section of the Bronx.
The group of strangers walked up to the girl and her friend just before 8:30 p.m. Monday inside the Pearly Gates park, near Tratman and St. Peter's avenues.
Police sources say the group shouted "Ewok," and held up up Makk Ballas, or Mac Ballers, gang signs.
The 12-year-old ran then ran from the park and the alleged gang members opened fire.
The NYPD says the girl was shot in the torso and the left foot.
Sources close to the investigation tell News 12 that she was not the gunman's intended target.
A good Samaritan took the 12-year-old to a hospital. She is expected to recover physically, according to the NYPD.
Police sources say detectives recovered seven shell casings and a 9 mm handgun at the scene.
Detectives previously said they were searching for just two men in connection to the shooting.
The men's intended target - and possible motive - was not immediately known.
Bronx Borough President Vanessa L. Gibson spoke out about the shooting in a post on X.
Police urge anyone with information to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
