‘The area is not safe.’- 5-year-old recovering at home after being grazed by bullet in Brooklyn

The child was getting out of the car with chalk in her hand ready to draw on the sidewalk when she was hit by the bullet.

A 5-year-old girl was released from the hospital after she was grazed by a bullet in Brooklyn on Monday. 
The child was injured when gunfire broke out around 6 p.m. on New Lots Avenue and Montauk Avenue in East New York.
The girl's mother, who did not want to speak on camera, tells News 12 that her daughter is recovering at home and that she's doing OK.
The child was getting out of the car with chalk in her hand ready to draw on the sidewalk when she was hit by the bullet.
Police say the girl was not the intended target. 
"The area is not safe, it's so scary," neighbor Kadihuau Diallo says. "I come here late, and I am very scared."
Police have not released a description of the suspect or suspects.
