In addition to musical performances, hundreds of vendors set up for the weekend at Commodore Barry Park to offer goods like colorful fabrics and handmade jewelry.
The festival has been running since 1971, making it one of the oldest annual pan-African arts festivals in the country.
For the past five decades, many residents have gathered at the event to celebrate different cultures within the African diaspora.
The festival will go on until July 4 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
