Officers from the 41st Precinct held their fifth annual Autism
Awareness Walk in Hunts Point.
Children joined in the fun and walked along Longwood Avenue to
raise awareness for people with autism.
For many like Detective Herawattie Jeeuth, the walk is personal.
“My niece is autistic, and I was offered auxiliary spot six
years ago,” Jeeuth says. “And I decided, you know what, we’re going to have an
autism event in honor of these kids.”
She hopes the event creates more understanding and acceptance of
people with autism.
Anyone who wants to support the cause can wear blue to raise
awareness for autism.
