A state report on ?persistently dangerous schools? includes six Bronx institutions.
M.S. 399, M.S. 296 and M.S. 298 are new to the list this year and join three other schools from the borough that had previously acquired the danger status. P.S. 12, P.S. 17 and P.S. 754 were on last year?s report in addition to the current study.
State Education Commissioner Richard Mills says that to gain inclusion on the list, a school must meet a quota of serious incidents two years in a row.
The New York City Department of Education says they will work closer with the NYPD in the upcoming school year to increase security near the troubled schools. The schools will also be given $100,000 from the state to help develop and implement better safety plans.
