A fire in Highbridge left some tenants with minor injuries and families displaced out in the cold Monday afternoon.
Emmanuel Romero, a first-floor tenant at 1234 Shakespeare Ave., told News 12 it is not the first time it has happened.
"It happened at the top, but we wasn't really affected. But this time it was like right next to us, all around us, like the walls. Everything was hot. And it was just it was crazy," said Romero.
In July 2015, a three-alarm fire broke out at 1234 Shakespeare Ave. In that incident, officials reported no residents were harmed, but one firefighter suffered from chest pains.
Unlike the 2015 fire, officials report Monday's fire left three people with minor injuries, and one person with serious but injuries that were not life-threatening.
"My neighbor called me. I opened my door and nothing but smoke and I couldn't get out. So, I just shut the door, and I went out the fire escape, and I started knocking on the door. Well, I was very frightened and whatever I had on I told my daughter, let's go, let's get out of here," Shannon said.
The Red Cross provided emergency assistance to eight households, including 13 adults, three children and three cats.
