Khalid Shekh Mohammed, otherwise known as the "mastermind" behind the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, and his two co-defendants may no longer face the death penalty.
A military judge ruled on Wednesday that if a plea deal is accepted by the government and a judge, there will be no death penalty.
This comes over 23 years after the tragic day of the terrorist attacks.
News12 spoke to 9/11 first responder and former FDNY Deputy Chief Richard Alles, who said this ruling by the judge is "unconscionable."
