Police say a father of three was killed in a hit-and-run early Sunday morning at a NYCHA building parking lot in Melrose.
Police confirmed to News 12 they responded to a call of a motor vehicle collision at 645 Westchester Ave. around 2:24 a.m.
The NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad determined an unidentified individual driving an SUV inside the parking lot hit a 27-year-old man before leaving the scene.
Neighbors set up a memorial in the lobby of the St. Mary's Parks Houses on Sunday to honor Mclaughlin.
Loved ones claimed they know the victim and identified him as Marcus Mclaughlin.
"We were just at my little brother, baby shower. Just having fun, cherishing the moments," said neighbor Chase Bands.
The evening of celebration turned into tragedy as the family now mourns the loss of a friend, son, and father.
"He told his kids last night like, 'go to bed. Call me in the morning when you wake up,'" said Mclaughlin's aunt-in-law, Lisa Davanzo. "To wake up and not be able to speak or see your father, that's mad devastating."
Police had not confirmed the identity of the person killed in the hit-and-run as of Sunday night.
Police urge anyone who knows anything to contact the Crime Stoppers Hotline.
