AAA predicts 40 million Americans will be traveling for Memorial Day weekend, and most will be driving just as prices at the pump are sky high.
Many paying well over $70 to fill up. AAA says 35 million Americans are going to be hitting the road for Memorial Day weekend. In New York City, AAA says the average price per gallon is $5.04. A month ago, it was 80 cents cheaper.
Despite the high prices, AAA says more people will be traveling this year compared to last year. Flight costs are also more expensive, but air travel is also up 25% from last year.
Thursday and Friday are going to be the busiest days for travel. AAA expects nearly 400,000 calls for broken down cars, so make sure to check your vehicle before you go.
