Senior students at the Academy of Mount St. Ursula skated through a rite of passage today at the high school.
Honoring a coming-of-age tradition that’s been celebrated since 1960, the girls laced up their roller skates at Poe Park and rolled down the Grand Concourse - into the next chapter of their lives.
It’s a cherished experience that many students told News 12 they’ve waited years to celebrate. So, even on a dark and rainy day like today, they said nothing would stop them from enjoying it.
"I don't care if it was snowing right now, I'd be so happy!" said one student. "I've been waiting for this since the seventh grade when I came here for an open house."
To commemorate this milestone and all of their hard work over the past four years, each of the students received a class ring as well.
