A Bronx man accused of grabbing a police officer's gun and fatally shooting a deli worker appeared in court Thursday for a preliminary hearing.
Efrain Guzman, 30, is accused of killing Wali Camara, 49, a deli worker who family members say tried to help officers during an altercation.
Guzman allegedly got into a fight with workers inside a Valentine Avenue bodega near East 19th Street in Bedford Park prior to the shooting.
He faces murder charges, and police say he has a lengthy criminal background with many prior arrests.
The victim's family says Guzman showed little remorse in court. Community leaders also showed up to the hearing to question how Guzman was able to get his hands on the officer's weapon.
The NYPD is in the process of replacing old holsters with newer, more secure ones.
A vigil for Camara will be held Friday evening on Valentine Avenue.
Guzman is due back in court Sept. 1.
