Mayor Michael Bloomberg outlined additional changes Wednesday for the Administration for Children?s Services (ACS) to keep up with child abuse cases in the Bronx and city.
For the first time ever, a NYPD supervisor will work full time at ACS to improve communication between the agency and police. The Department of Education will also report students who have been absent for 10 consecutive days to ACS. ACS will now seek court orders to pull children out of abusive homes. Officials say all of the policies will be implemented by the end of June.
Earlier this month, the mayor announced ACS would get ?ChildStat,? a system similar to one the NYPD uses to track crime, to keep up with abuse cases. The changes come after the death of a Brooklyn girl, Nixzmary Brown, whose stepfather and mother allegedly abused her for years.
