Activists rally to help BX, city homeless residents
Homeless activists staged a rally Monday demanding jobs and better housing to help residents transition into more stable lives.
Dozens of people who collect welfare marched down 125th Street in Harlem. They are calling for the city to reform its Advantage Program.
The program is a rental subsidy for homeless people leaving shelters in the Bronx and city, but many say it?s not meeting the needs of homeless people while they?re in transition. Activists say the new city programs are forcing recipients to accept below poverty wages, and are not providing jobs or job training.
