An actress who grew up in Brooklyn and worked in the Bronx paid a special visit to students at an East Williamsburg high school.
Dascha Polanco, who plays Daya on the Netflix series "Orange is the New Black" grew up in Brooklyn and worked at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx. She brightened up the day Friday for seniors at Progress High School. She also offered them some advice about what it was like being a teen mom.
"Know that there are choices in life and there are consequences to the choices you make and not to take any excuse as a way of not being able to accomplish any goal or dream," says Polanco.
One lucky student got more than advice from Polanco when he asked her to the senior prom. He actually got a yes from her and some words of wisdom about working hard.
The prom is in June, and Polanco says she's getting a new dress for the event.
