Adams administration announces 60-day notice for adult asylum seekers to find alternative housing

Mayor Eric Adams announced a new plan for the city to help prioritize migrant families and children.
The plan is giving single adult asylum seekers – already under the city’s care -- a 60-day notice to find alternative housing. Adams says the city is out of room as 90,000 migrants have arrived in New York City since April 2022.
"It's wrong New York City is carrying the weight of a national problem,” said Adams.
Adams’ administration told News 12 that immigrants unable to find housing within the 60 days would need to reapply for a new placement at the arrival center. Adams also created flyers for the borders to honestly warn migrants what to expect if they come to New York to seek shelter and services.
Officials say this is the only way to make space for the immigrant families and children. Adams continues to ask for support from the state and federal government.
