The boroughs are experiencing a long stretch of the coldest temperatures in years.

The city is responding by opening warming centers and warning buses across the five boroughs. A code blue remains in effect.

The mayor announced on Monday that another New Yorker lost their life outdoors. The total number of outdoor deaths during the winter cold snap is up to 18.

"Each life lost is a tragedy and we will continue to hold their families in our thoughts," said the Mayor.

Mamdani outlined the city's efforts over the cold weekend to keep New Yorkers off the streets and in the warm.

"We added bigger signage to warming centers in vehicles and work to improve 311 to cut the time that it takes to report a homeless individual in need of help approximately in half," said Mamdani.
