A new affordable housing project is coming to the Grand Concourse - right on top of a public library.
The New York Public Library and the city’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development are teaming up to build up to 100 affordable housing units above the Grand Concourse Library. The 65-year-old library will also get a complete makeover to improve accessibility and efficiency.
City officials say they are gathering proposals from developers, with plans to select one by the end of the year. Construction won’t start immediately, and the library will remain open in the meantime.
