More students in the Bronx will soon have access to after-school programs this school year. Fourteen new after-school programs are opening this September across the borough for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. It's a part of the city's plan to roll out universal after-school by 2027, bringing 20,000 new seats online over the next three years. This September, 5,000 new seats will be open for students across all five boroughs at 37 different public schools and three charter schools. The city says the locations were selected based on economic need in the communities. "Every parent knows that learning doesn't just take place in the classroom, but, for too long, too many families did not have access to affordable child care and during after-school hours. But building a safer, more affordable city starts with creating a safe space for our young New Yorkers to learn," said Mayor Eric Adams.
