Travelers will be spending more out of pocket to park at major area airports starting this week.
Port Authority officials say demand for airport parking has increased significantly. They’re urging travelers to book their parking in advance to avoid paying a higher price.
Travelers who do not prebook will be charged a summer peak period surcharge and may not be able to find a parking spot at the airport. Parking at the Terminal B lot was priced at $60, but the new summer rate is now $80. For those who prebook, drivers will only pay $39.
Travelers parking for longer than three hours are strongly encouraged to prebook at least 24 hours in advance at the three major airports — LaGuardia, John F. Kennedy International and Newark Liberty International. Port Authority officials say the rates will be reassessed at the end of the summer.
Port Authority officials are also recommending travelers use other modes of transportation to the airports, such as mass transit, taxis or ride-share services.
