The FDNY says 11 people were hurt in a basement fire that broke out on Jerome Avenue Sunday night.
Firefighters were dispatched to the fire at around 10 p.m. and was placed under control close to 11 p.m.
Surveillance video released to News 12 shows a man walking towards the basement of the building, grabbing a large piece of garbage from outside and bringing it into the basement. Moments later, flames erupt from the basement as that man leaves the building.
One person who lives in the building says that he doesn't recognize the man.
Eleven people were caught in those flames, including one firefighter. The 10 people who were injured were living in the basement at the time the flames broke out. Five people were in the hospital recovering Monday morning.
There is now an ongoing investigation to find out who started the fire.
