Alessandra Biaggi sworn in as state senator for 34th District
Newly elected state Sen. Alessandra Biaggi was sworn in Sunday in a ceremony at Lehman College that was attended by elected officials and community members.
Biaggi now officially represents the 34th District, where she was born and raised. It covers the Bronx and part of Westchester. Biaggi, 32, pulled off a major political upset when she defeated 14-year incumbent Jeff Klein.

"This victory was about seizing a moment, it was about washing away a power structure that shows to you cynicism and back-room deals to self-serving ends -- yes, wash it away, please!" Biaggi said. "This victory had consequences. I believe gone are the days of four men in a room making decisions about our bodies and our communities without our voices."
There was a full house at the college for the ceremony. Attendees included Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer and Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark.
Majority Leader of the New York state Senate Andrea Stewart-Cousins was also there, swearing in Biaggi.
