An
88-year-old man with dementia named Pedro Hernandez has been missing since
Sunday, and residents in Allerton are asking for help to track him down.
Hernandez
was last seen Sunday morning heading to church just a few blocks away from his
home.
News
12 has been told that Pedro Hernandez is about 5 foot 7, weighing about 150
pounds and was last seen wearing black pants, a white button-down shirt with a blue
tie and was not wearing his glasses.
“It’s
something that he does normally, goes to church at St. Phillip St. James,” said
Hernandez’s niece. “He goes there by himself and then he comes back home.”
Hernandez’s
family says this has never happened before. Officers who went to the church to
investigate told the family that Pedro never made it there on Sunday.
Sophia
Reid, the program director of R.A.I.N Eastchester Older Adults Center, says his
absence was noticeable, and has lent a hand to help find him.
"He
comes with his sister every single day to the center, because he lives here in
the complex and his sister's 100. And they walk to the center every single
day,” said Reid. “So we made these flyers today, we put them up in all the
buildings.”
Reid
says she and her team plan to visit area hospitals tomorrow to search for
Hernandez.
Anyone
with information on the whereabouts of Pedro Hernandez is asked to call NYPD’s
Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
