An Alzheimer’s awareness walk honoring caregivers was held in the Bronx Tuesday.
The walk took place on Orchard Beach and was hosted by the Regional Aid for Interim Needs.
It is the first time they are hosting a walk for caregivers of Alzheimer's or Related Dementia's patients.
Studies and statistics show that Alzheimer's disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States.
Organizers say caregivers are impacted by the patients they spend so much time with and are often tasked with many difficulties.
The walk is intended to support awareness to the challenges faced by caregivers who aid Alzheimer's patients.
Often the job can lead to stress, lack of awareness or community resources and lack of education about the disease and advocacy.
