big winners of last night's Super Bowl, but so is the online sports betting
industry.
People started showing up at the FanDuel Sportsbook at the Meadowlands
in East Rutherford even before they opened -- many to gather winnings from bets
they placed online at home.
“I won the Super Bowl bet I
placed the other night,” says Roman Perlov, of West New York. “Really excited
because it was a really close game.”
Perlov is one of millions of people who placed bets online this
Super Bowl Sunday. The American
Gaming Association was expecting a record 31.4 million Americans to
wager an estimated $7.61 billion in total -- up 78% from last year.
The reason for the jump has a lot to do with more states
legalizing online sports gaming, which is 19 now that New York turned on the
apps last month.
