Two Bronx natives who have dedicated their lives to advocacy and assistance to fellow residents were given tickets to Barack Obama?s presidential inauguration Saturday.
Angela Randall, 77, and Carmen Allende, 80, were given a personal invitation to the historic event by Congressman Jose Serrano (D) for their service to the community. The two women have dedicated more than 40 years to helping Bronx residents through the South Bronx Action Group.
The SBAG works primarily with neighbors in the South Bronx to aid them with housing, social services, and citizenship issues. Although Allende attended President Bill Clinton?s inauguration, she says this year?s celebration means more to her.
?In my lifetime, to see this dream come true, it just gives you the inspiration to say, ?We have to make it and still have to work harder,?? Allende says.
