Yankees star Alex Rodriguez confessed Monday to using performance-enhancing drugs from 2001 to 2003, sending shockwaves through The Bronx and the sports world.
In 2005, Rodriguez donated $200,000 to the Children?s Aid Society, which has several locations in the Bronx. Representatives from the Southern Boulevard branch say they are trying to use Rodriguez?s experience with steroid use as a lesson for the children.
?A-Rod can still be your hero,? says Michael Navas, of the Children?s Aid Society. ?He made a mistake, he changed and he admitted to it.?
The Yankees organization has thrown its support behind Rodriguez. Baseball officials say while they do not condone the use of performance-enhancing drugs in the sport, they respect A-Rod?s decision to take responsibility for his past actions.
