Artist Marcus Jansen discusses Bronx Museum collaboration, the state of artists of color
Marcus Jansen’s piece was part of a series from “Monument Wars” and was sold over expectations at Christie’s Auction House, and now he’s collaborating with the Bronx Museum.
“The Bronx Museum approached us, and I am actually represented by Richard Beavers Gallery in Brooklyn, and so we actually did this in collaboration with the gallery and it was awesome,” said Jansen.
Jansen is from the Bronx and has a studio in Mott Haven. He says he has been in the art world for 30 years.
"Thirty years ago there was very little market for artists of color…and it was difficult to really be seen or for galleries to carry you,” said Jansen.
He says he likes to have an impact in communities and is even starting the Marcus Jansen Foundation. He also says there is an exhibit coming soon with the Richard Beavers Gallery in Brooklyn.
