Bronx residents celebrate Hindu new year

One of the biggest festivals in India was celebrated in the Bronx Wednesday.
Diwali, also known as the Hindu Festival of Lights, marks the new year on the Hindu calendar.
Many residents celebrated the holiday at Vishnu Mandir temple in Soundview.
Those celebrating dressed in elaborate outfits, feasted on Indian sweets and prayed to the Hindu goddess Lakshmi for a promising new year.
Diwali is a holiday celebrated in many countries by different religions, and each have their own meaning behind it.
