A Fairfield man is recovering in the hospital this morning after a fire nearly destroyed his home.

Fire officials say someone driving by saw the smoke and flames coming from the home on Kings Highway East Tuesday morning.

They say crews found the victim on the first floor of the house.

EMT's began advanced life-saving treatment and took the man to Bridgeport hospital.

No word yet this morning on the cause of the fire.
