Today marks three years since New York City's first recorded COVID-19 death.
Mayor Eric Adams and city officials took a moment to reflect and honor the more than 45,000 New Yorkers who died from the virus. The somber occasion also included moments of gratitude for essential workers, first responders and recognition of the millions of New Yorkers who have gotten vaccinated.
As of Tuesday, 99% of adult New Yorkers have at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine according to city officials.
