Mayor Eric Adams extended his thanks to the lifeguards that were keeping New Yorkers safe on the beaches and by the pools all summer long.  

This comes after lifeguards responded to a shark bite that took place at Rockaway Beach early last month.  

There were 57 shark attacks recorded worldwide in 2022.
