Officials: Volunteer firefighter fatally stabbed in Red Bank
Officials say an off-duty volunteer firefighter was fatally stabbed in Red Bank, and a suspect is facing charges in the case.
The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office says police responded to Tilton Avenue and Bank Street around 12:30 a.m. They say 26-year-old Andrew Hill had been stabbed and died from his injuries at Riverview Medical Center just after 1 a.m.
Hill was a member of the Red Bank First Aid Squad. Officials say he was a second lieutenant with the West Side Hose Company.
Deemar Reevey, 23, is now charged with first-degree murder and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. The motive remains unclear.
Red Bank Fire Chief Stuart Jensen says Hill contributed to his community as a firefighter and a talented musician. Colleagues are remembering Hill for being caring, sweet and loving.
The mayor has ordered flags in the borough to be lowered to half staff until Hill's funeral.
