A new poll from Fairleigh Dickinson University seems to indicate that New Jersey residents are split when it comes to modifying the statewide plastic bag ban.
The
poll found that 40% of those polled want the ban to stay as is, 33% went it overturned completely and 26% say that it should be changed slightly.
“When the ban passed last year, it was contentious, but politicians figured that people would get used to it,” said poll director Dan Cassino. “Nine months later, people are still arguing about it.”
The poll also found that it was mostly Democrats who wanted to keep the ban, while it was mostly Republicans who wanted to see it overturned.
The ban on single-use shopping bags went into effect in May. It is one of the strictest bans in the country.
