Some libraries in New York City will begin closing on Sundays due to budget cuts.
The Bronx, Manhattan, and some Queens libraries will end Sunday service on Nov. 26, while Sunday service for the Brooklyn Public Libraries will end starting on Dec. 17.
Mayor Eric Adams says it is a cost-cutting measure prompted by growing expenses related to the migrant crisis. He says all city agencies, including the NYPD, will also need to make financial cutbacks.
The city’s three library systems say that losing money from the Sunday closures will impact how much they can spend on maintenance and other library resources.

This comes months after City Council members were able to find an additional $36 million in funding for the library system.
