Thousands of people are hitting the pavement today to race in the Brooklyn Marathon and Half Marathon.

NYCRuns, founded in 2011, began as a community race in Prospect Park with 262 finishers running multiple loops around the park.

More than 20,000 runners competed this year in the marathon's 10th annual event, finishing in Prospect Park.

NYCRuns will host several other running events throughout the year.
