An exact replica of the Anne Frank House is opening Monday in New York City just in time for Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Anne's diary has been translated into 70 languages with over 30 million copies sold, and her story is an account for all to learn about the Holocaust.

From the secret door hidden behind a bookcase, there are two very small bedrooms including the desk and diary where Anne chronicled life in that cramped attic in Amsterdam, hidden from the Nazis. Even those who have visited Anne's original home will continue to learn about her life here.

“We hope that people will learn about Anne's life from her early childhood years to their first move to the Netherlands in 1933-1934,” said Ronald Leopold, the executive director of Annex House Amsterdam.

People attending the exhibit at the Center for Jewish History will see dozens of personal items and a re-creation of Anne's kitchen including appliances during the two years the Franks lived in hiding.

The museum hopes the exhibit will resonate – especially with young people.

“When students learn to identify hate, when they learn to confront it with empathy and critical thinking, they will become part of the solution,” said Leopold.

Anne Frank was taken to the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in Germany. She died from typhus in spring 1945.
