Nearly 16 years after an NYPD detective lost his life in the line of duty, his family continues to keep his name alive with an annual blood drive.
On Wednesday, the community came out to the East Midwood Jewish Center to donate blood in honor of NYPD Detective Dillion Stewart.
Stewart was killed back in 2005 after being shot while trying to pull over the driver of a stolen vehicle.
The fallen officer is survived by his wife and two daughters, who say they hold the blood drives as a way to not only remember him but also give back to the community.
As the family continues to carry on Stewart’s legacy, they’re hoping the event will continue to grow.
