Application process underway for affordable houses in West Farms
Dozens of affordable housing units are now up for grabs in West Farms in the first of more than a dozen buildings being renovated.
The Lambert Houses, made up of 14 buildings around East 180th Street, is owned by Phipps Houses, a nonprofit organization. Several years ago, it undertook the $600 million task of demolishing and rebuilding each building, and doubling the site’s number of affordable units.
While the entire project won't be complete for another decade, the first building at 988 East 180th St. is now accepting applications. There are 49 units in the 18-story building. Depending on income, a studio could be as low as $761 a month. A two-bedroom can run you less than $1,200.
Residents can apply on the city’s Housing Connect website until April 2. It’s expected to be up and running this fall.
