There is an arrest warrant out for Alexander Wright, the accused attacker of an MTA worker, after he skipped out on court again.
Prosecutors say Wright attacked Anthony Nelson in August 2022 while Nelson was working at Pelham Park No. 6 train station.
As News 12 has previously reported, Wright was deemed mentally unfit to stand trial following multiple hearings and postponements and was charged with second-degree assault.
Wright was granted a $500 bail bond and was supposed to appear back in court on Sept. 26, but skipped.
He was supposed to appear back in court on Monday but skipped again.
MTA criminal justice advocate Kathryn Falasca says transit workers need protection.
"Subway workers keep this city running. The subway system is the only way the city is kept affordable. These are the people that keep our customers and New Yorkers to work, to home, to hospitals, to appointments. An assault on them is an assault on New York City," said Falasca.
Transport Workers Union Local 100 Vice President Robert Kelley says the concern now transcends beyond transit workers.
"We have great concerns not just for Nelson's family, but all residents of the Bronx," said Kelley.
Nelson tells News 12 that this is another delay in justice.
"I can't get through my next chapter of life until this is over with. I'm stuck. I'm in an echo chamber. Until this portion is done and we get this right there's nothing I can do." said Nelson.
