A beloved restaurant on City Island is saying goodbye after a successful 30 years in business.
Arties Steak and Seafood Restaurant that occupies the corner of Ditmars Street and City Island Avenue announced it will close at the end of the month.
Managing partner Spiros Chagares says the decision was not made lightly, but it is time for the next chapter as he prepares for retirement.
"We are just going to miss all our guests, and we wish everybody well and thank everybody from the bottom of my heart for being such loyal customers for 30 years," said Chagares.
Chagares took over the Mediterranean-inspired restaurant in 1996 and built it to be a place where family and tradition can come together.
"We wanted to give everybody the highest quality food and make them feel at home, and it's become a generational restaurant. I've had christenings here that the children grew up and I did their kids christenings, showers, weddings, we were very much a part of the community here," said Chagares.
Arties final day will be Sept. 28.
