More New Jersey cities are choosing to pause legal marijuana sales on their own of until more information becomes available as the Aug. 21 deadline approaches.

Asbury Park voters chose overwhelmingly to legalize pot, but city leaders argue, they just don't have enough guidance from Trenton.

Deputy Mayor Amy Quinn says the city will pause legal weed sales – for now – to make sure it's done in a way to get the highest reaching benefits.

"We want to ensure that the state is ensuring that the people getting these licenses are people of color, marginalized communities, or that there is a really strong equity clause talking about the communities that have been harmed by these laws over the years," Quinn says.

The pause on legal sales could last weeks or months.

More than 100 business owners have already reached out to city leaders looking to open shops in Asbury Park.
